The first brushless slip ring was created in the 1960s to improve the sound of the Leslie Organ Speaker, known as the "Pipe Voice of the Electric Organ". Don Leslie, the inventor and manufacturer of the speaker, needed a rotating electrical conductor for a connection to the spinning loudspeakers. However, his many attempts to use traditional slip rings resulted in crackling sounds when playing music. To solve this problem, brothers Don and Bob Leslie collaborated to develop a brushless slip ring that provided a noise-free connection and high-fidelity sound. Seeing the potential of this new type of slip ring for other applications, Bob Leslie founded Mercotac in 1978. The company still manufactures Mercotac brushless slip rings to this day in California, USA and has expanded its product line to meet the needs of a wide range ofapplications.

Note: The metal receptacle used for mounting is electrically conductive. Therefore, if desired, it can be used as the electrical connection between the 110 and the rotating member of the machine using Part #5920. However, if an insulated mounting at the rotating member is being used, then Part #5921-S with six inch wire lead is used for the electrical connection.
Model 110 Suggested Mounting Methods
Model 110 is typically mounted by the knurled metal receptacle, which is press-fit into the rotating member of the machine. When mounting horizontally, use the similar model 110-T instead to be able to mount the Mercotac rotary connector so that the body of the connector rotates.
